e-Prescribing has the potential to save physicians time and money. To support the physicians of Arkansas in implementing e-prescribing, Arkansas Medicaid in collaboration with EDS, provides an electronic connection thru Surescripts. This e-prescribing system gives physicians access to the following information on Medicaid patients:
- Unique patient identification
- Program eligibility and pharmacy benefit coverage
- Secure, two-way communication to the pharmacy
- Patient medication history
Electronic prescribing should be seen as an important step in improving patient care. Providers that e-prescribe and use the clinical decision support offered through their software make more informed prescribing decisions. Access to information on the patient’s medication history, pharmacy eligibility, formulary, and benefits information allows providers to have a more complete picture of the patient’s prescribing history, thus enhancing the quality and continuity of care provided.
