Half of Healthcare Professionals Not Yet Familiar with MACRA

Qsource, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved contractor in Alabama and Tennessee providing technical assistance to small, underserved practices, and rural practices, was not surprised by recent findings in a survey conducted by NueMD indicating that half of healthcare professionals are not familiar with the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) Quality Payment Program (QPP.)

Qsource has provided technical assistance to practices for many years on a multitude of initiatives such as the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and Meaningful Use (MU). The Quality Payment Program is a culmination of many past CMS programs and actually simplifies the burden of having to address multiple initiatives separately. The Program has the potential for a positive impact on healthcare professionals, their practices and their patients.

“The hectic pace and competing priorities of practices and their staff has everyone scrambling and some even hiding,” said Jennifer Ride, Director of Practice Solutions at Qsource. “Practices that have participated in MU or PQRS can easily participate in the Quality Payment Program this year. It isn’t as scary or difficult as most people perceive and there are free resources available to help that provide an extra pair of hands to help these already overwhelmed practices.”

According to NueMD’s survey, only nine percent of respondents felt “very familiar” with MACRA and 49 percent indicating they had not received any information such as webinars, infographics or other information. Interestingly, Quality Payment Program contractors, such as Qsource, across the nation are creating tools and resources that are widely available on the topic. These resources and subject matter experts are available at no cost to respond to calls or e-mail requests from those needing assistance or have questions.
