Drug Safety
QSource is beginning work on a national initiative to improve drug safety. This initiative will focus on reducing drug-to-drug interactions (DDI) and potentially inappropriate medications (PIM). In order to improve these measures, QSource is committed to building relationships between pharmacists, healthcare practitioners, managed care organizations and pharmaceutical companies.
Based on CMS data for 1st and 2nd quarter 2007, Tennessee had the highest rate for DDI and the sixth highest rate for PIM in the nation for participants of Medicare Part D. This compelling statistic should give all healthcare providers impetus to change practice patterns and systems. It should also spur increased communication between pharmacists, physicians, and other clinicians.
