Peers in Action Memo: April 2024

It's about to be summer, so let's talk about travel!

Taking a trip while trying to fit in your dialysis treatments, medication schedules, and any unexpected events can seem overwhelming. At the ESRD Network we want you to feel empowered in your choice to travel, and to feel confident no matter how long the adventure will last. Making a checklist, reviewing your route ahead of time, finding restaurants along the way that will accommodate your kidney-friendly needs, and knowing where the nearest emergency room is located are just some of the ways you can be prepared for your trip.

Here is a patient ID card that includes dialysis information. This card is a great way to make sure you can communicate your needs in any situation.

Food choices shouldn’t have to be a burden while on a kidney-friendly diet, and these choices can seem harder in uncharted territory. Below is a resource on how to eat healthy even at fast food restaurants while on the road.

Your ESRD Network wants to recognize at least one facility staff member each month who is going above and beyond for their patients. This month we want to celebrate:

  • Jean Hanlon! Jean is the Social Worker for DaVita Stony Creek, DaVita Tinley Park, and DaVita Chicago Ridge Home PD! She has three Peers in Action signed up across her facilities, is always willing to participate in Network activities, asks for assistance when needed, and consistently puts her patient’s needs first. Thanks for doing such a great job, Jean!

Do you have a facility staff member you’d like to nominate for the facility shoutout? Email us the details of who, what, and where at: Qsource-Peers@qsource.org
