June 30, 2021
In this episode, the Conversation is about Minority Health. Quality Improvement Specialist Cathy Wray leads a conversation with Calvin Roberson, Jr., vice president of Planning and Program Development for the Indiana Minority Health Coalition and David Berman, Vice President of Harm Reduction and Crisis Stabilization Programs for Mental Health America of Indiana Director as well as the Director of the Indiana Suicide Prevention Network, and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Indiana.
Calvin Roberson shares how transitions of care, COVID-19 isolation, vaccination fears and lack of social support can negatively impact the senior population and how minority populations can become frustrated and apprehensive with or about health care when health literacy is not approached from an equitable perspective. He also touches on the increased burden many seniors are experiencing as they try to manage their chronic diseases while facing financial burdens.
David Berman joins the conversation to share his insights and expertise into strategies for harm reduction in our communities, mental health resources and guidance for us moving forward after COVID-19.
